Review: Being Brooke by Emma Hart

Being Brooke

by Emma Hart

Publication Date: December 11, 2016

Genre: Romantic Comedy

My name is Brooke Barker…
And I’m a freaking disaster.
No, seriously. I’m a college drop-out working a dead-end job, my best friend Carly’s dog gets more action than I do, and I have more bad dates in my diary than there are movie remakes.
Not to mention I’m completely and utterly in love with Cain Elliott.
The problem? He’s in a relationship. With a girl who’s so plastic she makes Barbie cry herself to sleep with jealousy.
The second problem? He’s my best friend.
My shut-up-and-put-on-Harry-Potter, yes-this-is-your-shirt, help-I-have-no-power, crap-I’m-out-of-tampons, kinda best friend.
And that’s all he can be, right?

My Review

5 “Hot Mess” stars!

Being Brooke was my first Emma Hart read and I absolutely ADORED it! I’m so glad I one-clicked this book. The writing was brilliant, witty, and I was a little sad when it was over. I needed MORE of Brooke and Cain!

“Liking people takes a lot of energy. I’d rather use that energy for other things. Like eating four tacos and drinking an entire bottle of wine.”

Brooke Barker is the definition of “hot mess,” and can’t seem to get a grasp on this thing called “adulting.”  She was so easy to love and one of my FAVORITE female romantic comedy leads this year. She’s awkward, sarcastic, tends to speak before thinking, and has been in love with her best friend, Cain Elliot, for a good portion of their friendship. She’s also been suppressing those feelings—never wanting to risk her heart or their friendship. And everyone in their life seems to know this except him.

“But I’m also totally in love with him to the point I’ve considered photoshopping myself into pictures with him, so the best friend thing kinda sucks.”

I loved the dynamic between Brooke and Cain. Cain is the PERFECT male lead. He’s gorgeous, loyal, and so patient and understanding when it comes to Brooke. He’s also there to keep her and their other best friend, Carly, out of trouble.

“Shut your face. You don’t have to build anything.” I play with a loose thread on the cover. “I’m sure me and Carly can do it.” He shudders, vibrating the bed. “No, fuck no. If you and Carly try to build a dresser, you’ll create a portal to another world or something. Or you’ll just break it and call me anyway.”

Being Brooke was full of humor, clever, and insanely entertaining! The perfect example of a Romantic Comedy done right! I found myself with a smile plastered to my face and laughing-out-loud throughout Brooke’s entire journey of finding love and herself.

“You’re chaos, Brooke Barker. Luckily for you, I happen to love chaos.”

About the Author

emma hart.jpg

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling sexy romance author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies – usually wine – and writes books.

Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her readers at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and addictive, all-consuming love that will keep you up all night.

She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life. This has recently expanded to including vacuuming, a tedious job made much more exciting by the voices in her head. Naturally, it also takes twice as long to complete.
